Animatic Editing
The animatic and storyboard are the first sketch of timing and action, giving the end-client the first idea of what the final result will look like, while also giving everyone on the team cues for when storytelling events are supposed to happen. As a Premiere and Final Cut editor, I have worked on both animatics and final output, as many project-saving changes can quickly and easily be implemented without having to resort to re-animating the entire project.
Directing
Whether it's motion graphics, effects animation, or character animation, as a Director I try to keep in mind the overall audience experience. VIsuals, music, empathetic characters -knowing what to reveal to the audience and when (and how!) can be crucial to their overall viewing pleasure. I've directed several videos for corporate clients, keeping the brand in mind when mapping out action that supports the narration and music that supports the mood.
Animation
My favorite part of the process, I've moved through almost every medium of animation throughout my career: 3D, 2D, digital, and hand-drawn. My mainstay animation platforms are After Effects, Moho 12, Cinema 4d, Flash/Animate CC, and pretty much anything else that has a timeline -even Photoshop. In character animation my goal is a believable, lifelike performance that the audience can empathize with. In motion graphics my goal is to take otherwise dull material and create a entertaining experience that keeps the audience engaged and intrigued while highlighting the key points of the narration.
Project Management
Animation is a team sport, and most teams benefit from a experienced leader. I've managed teams of up to 7 animators on projects as big as 23-episode series and as small as 3 for 3.5-minute viral videos. Project management is as much about coordination as it is about knowing the production flow and who is best for the job.
